Vigilantes deliver an ultimatum to the Mexican government

On April 11th Jose Manuel Mireles gave the Mexican government an ultimatum. If members of Mireles vigilante “self-defense” group were not released by May 10th, there would be dire consequences.

In order to “rescue” as many as 100 vigilantes currently in detention, Mireles threatened to block towns and roads just west of Mexico City.

Mireles also requested that the government legalize self-defense vigilante groups. “We are necessary in the fight against the drug cartels. Without us, groups such as the Knights of Templar would threaten the safety of all of our communities.”

No statement has been put out by the President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration. As of now, the government continues to detain self-defense vigilantes.
