Destruction of Lime Farms in the State of Jalisco

Word has been received that over 30 lime farms in the state of Jalisco have been burnt to the ground in a turf war between the Knights of Templar and the Juarez cartel. The number of fatalities from these farm seizures has not been confirmed. Each of these farms spanned 3-5 acres growing at least 3,000-10,000 limes each.

Months prior to these attacks, lime farms were suffering because of a widespread lime-rot disease. With the decrease of temperature and lack of rainfall in the recent months, over 70% of the current lime stock have perished.

Consumers can expect sky-rocketing prices for limes in the months ahead. Mexico is one the world’s largest lime producers. No word has been heard as to whether lime farms in other Mexican states will be threatened.
