REASON FOR ISSUE OF NOTICE(S)
With violence escalating at the US-Mexican Border, INTERPOL is issuing a notice regarding the increasing vulnerabilities in adequately protecting the national borders of both nations. The ability to undermine border security, and challenges for illegal border crossings have been reported to INTERPOL as likely. INTERPOL urges the United States and Mexico to take necessary precautions in anticipation of attempts to challenge federal protective forces.
ACTIONS REQUESTED
INTERPOL urges Mexican and US officials to integrate a border management Task Force to strengthen border security policies. In addition to enhancing the security systems by granting border crossings, airports, and consular agencies temporary access to the INTERPOL I-24/7 database, this will make it easier for border personnel to identify any dangerous people.
INTERPOL also would like to extend the capacity building mechanisms provided by Member States to the two nations, as well as training to border officials, to prevent corruption occurring in vulnerable regions.
