The leader of the the Guerrero Vigilante group, Nestora Salgado, has been arrested by the Mexican Federal Police following a raid by Federal Police on his house.
Salgado is an active and public supporter of the vigilante movement in Mexico against the drug cartels. The movement is extremely active across Mexico and the Southern United States, and say their respective governments fail to address the situation. Members of the Guerrero group have told reporters of the Associated Press that Salgado was very excited to work with his fellow vigilante groups and that the Federal Police had no reason to raid his house; they also say that he is being held without charges.
In a press statement, the Federal Police in Chilpancingo, capital of Gurerreo, have said the house was raided on suspicion of unregistered and smuggled assault weapons. In the same statement, they said officers found 10 AK-47s. If found guilty, Salgado faces up to 5 years in federal prison, though suspects may be indefinitely detained until trials commence.
