Sinaloa Cartel Repels Vigilante Attack

Mexico City, Mexico

Officials in Jalisco have confirmed a vigilante attack on the Sinaloa Cartel that has resulted in 25 dead of the 30 men who attacked the Cartel fortress. They were hoping to drive out the cartel from their town much like a vigilante group had done months before in the neighbouring province of Michoacan.

In recent times, the vigilantes have started to increase their raids on the cartels, but have not conducted an all out attack. Armed with smuggled AK-47s and hand grenades, they attempted to catch the cartels off guard, conducting their attack just before dawn but failed to take them by surprise. One of the survivors said “it was like they were ready for our attack. They had machine guns, grenade launchers, and assault rifles and used them with great precision. It seemed like half the security force was at the compound.” Additionally, some of the vigilante members were dressed in Federal Police uniforms, but lacked armaments or identification carried by the Federal Police. Commissioner General of Federal Police has publicly stated there was no Federal Police involvement in the raid and has initiated an investigation how the uniforms were obtained.

There are currently no indications that the Sinaloa Cartel have initiated any retribution for the attack, but tensions in the area remain high with police forces upping their presence and the public remains concerned of possible retribution.
