MEXICO CITY -- Not a month after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake (April 18, 2014), another earthquake hit the Pacific coast of Mexico last Thursday, May 8, 2014. No injuries have been reported, but varying degrees of damage have been reported in the aftermath of the 6.4 magnitude quake.
The 6.4 quake centered in Southern Guerrero was felt 171 miles (277 kilometers) in Mexico City. This most recent quake had a depth of 15 miles, and is being considered a relatively mild quake in comparison to the April quake and particularly the 8.1 magnitude quake from 1985, which had a 250 mile epicenter, leaving at least 6,000 dead and destroying several buildings in Mexico City.
