Earlier this morning at 11:16 AM PST, members of the Juárez cartel were apprehended outside of the home of Mayor Leticia Salazar. According to local authorities, the cartel members possessed high military grade weaponry. Two police officers and one cartel member were killed in the altercation.
“At this time, it has been confirmed that this was an assassination attempt on our Mayor, Leticia Salazar”, stated local police chief Juan Julio. Tensions between the Juárez cartel and Salazar had been running high for several months due to Salazar's refusal to accommodate cartel demands. Local news sources speculate this assassination attempt is not the last.
